Wind Turbine Service Technician health check requirements:
Candidates must have:
- high level of physical fitness and good health
- ability to work at height and in confined spaces
What comprises the medical examination?
The examination covers areas such as:
✔ Vertigo or Dizziness
✔ Does the candidate have a fear of heights?
✔ Does the candidate have a fear of confined spaces?
✔ Giddiness or any nervous disease
✔ Use of prescription medication
✔ Addictions (urine) test
✔ Visual and hearing tests
✔ Any restriction of physical movement
✔ Stress ECG or EKG of the cardiovascular system – if accepted (Post Requirement)
After a thorough examination, the medical practitioner makes recommendations as to whether or not the candidate is suitable for working at heights, in confined spaces and under stressful conditions. Whether or not a staff member is deployed to work under those conditions or not is at the discretion of the employer.
PLEASE NOTE:
To prevent the risk of running this learning opportunity at a loss, SARETEC will only present the course if there are a minimum of six (6) to twelve (12) paid participants attending the learning opportunity.
SARETEC will confirm with you in writing through an email informing you at least three (3) working days minimum before the start date of the course whether the learning opportunity is taking place or not.
All delegates will be issued with the required consumable Personal Protective Equipment.
All delegates will be issued a full colour learning guide.
All delegates will be registered on the GWO WINDA database on successful completion of the learning opportunity.
Catering and refreshments are included for all the days.

Requirements
- Artisan qualification in any of the following electrical/mechanical trades
- NQF level 4 qualification Electrician
- NQF level 4 qualification Electro-Mechanics
- NQF level 4 qualification Mechanical Engineering Millwright
- NQF level 4 qualification Mechatronics
- NQF level 4 qualification Fitter and Turner
- National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics
- National Diploma in Electrical Engineering subject to RPL
Target audiences
- South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Reside in the following towns (Emthanjeni and Renosterburg Local Municipality): De Aar, Phillipstown, Petrusville, Britstown and Hanover
- No criminal record
- Have no outstanding fees owing to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)
- Physically fit (Full medical would need to be undertaken before commencing)
- No fear of heights or confined spaces
- Cannot be enrolled in another programme at CPUT or any other Higher Educational Institution at the same time.
