CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

South African Renewable Energy Technology Centre (SARETEC) is releasing a Call for Applications for unemployed Youth for an opportunity to train for a Skills Programme: Renewable Energy Workshop Assistant (REWA) within the radius of City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality. 

Energy and Water Sector Education (EWSETA) has made funding available for this training of 150 (hundred and fifty) unemployed youth for which once trained, this skills programme opens doors of opportunities from which the learners will be prepared to feed or enter into all Renewable Energy Occupations in industry to further train as:

• Solar Photovoltaic Service Technician,
• Solar Water Heater Installer, and
• Wind Turbine Service Technician.
• Electrician

With South Africa’s energy industry rapidly expanding, there is a growing demand for well-trained youth, between the ages of 18 – 34 years old. People with disabilities who meet the course requirements are strongly encouraged to apply. Reasonable accommodation within the training facility will be provided, where applicable, to support their participation.

The Renewable Energy Workshop Assistant programme is a Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) approved skills programme designed to prepare learners for entry-level participation in renewable energy occupations.

About the Course

Renewable Energy Workshop Assistant programme has  24 Credits with training envisaged to take 6 weeks of training at SARETEC, Africa’s premier renewable energy training centre. The programme combines theoretical, practical, and workshop training to ensure industry readiness.

Duration:

• 6 Weeks – Theory Work & Practical Work

The accepted REWA learners will be divided into seven groups with the first starting as follows:

Group 1

• Start: 02 November 2026
• End: 11 December 2026

Group 2: 

• Start: 18 January 2027
• End:   26 February 2027

Group 3: 

• Start: 08 March 2027
• End: 16 April 2027

Group 4: 

• Start: 03 May 2027
• End: 11 June 2027

Group 5: 

• Start: 21 June 2027
• End: 30 July 2027 

Group 6: 

• Start: 10 August 2027
• End:  17 September 2027

Entry Requirements:

NQF: Level 1

Timelines: 

Call open: 07 September 2026

Application closing date: 02 October 2026

Communication to the applicants: 19 October 2026

Programme to commence: 02 November 2026

Application requirements:

• The applicants must reside in Western Cape (City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality).

• Proof of residential address (in form of utility or retail bill not older than 3 months, a lease agreement with the landlord or an affidavit from the South African Police Service (SAPS)

• Age Criteria: Between the ages of 18 – 34 years old.
• CV.
• Preference will be given to candidates with Matric Certificate or Highest Qualification.

Eligibility criteria:

• South African Citizen or Permanent Resident only.
• Must be a local of the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality.
• No criminal record.
• Preference will be given to Women (Previously Disadvantaged)

Call for Application
